The International Medical Center (IMC) in Jeddah has inaugurated an expanded Emergency Department and a new Center of Excellence for Cardiac Care in 2026, in a major upgrade to healthcare services in the Western Region. The expansion is located at IMC Hospital on Hail Street in Jeddah.
The project covers a total area of about 7,052 m², including roughly 3,039 m² of medical space, 1,468 m² of non-medical space, and 2,545 m² of outdoor space. A new dedicated entrance has been opened on the eastern side of the center to ease access and improve patient flow.
The first phase of the expanded Emergency Department features 14 treatment rooms, one resuscitation room, three fast-track rooms for less complex cases, two triage rooms for initial assessment, and a retained isolation room. The layout is built around the patient journey — from triage through fast-track or standard treatment to resuscitation when needed — with capacity to handle peak volumes along the busy corridor serving pilgrims and visitors in Jeddah.
Integrated cardiac care
The Center of Excellence for Cardiac Care includes a 12-bed Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) with two cardiac isolation rooms, a cardiac catheterization laboratory, and a hybrid operating lab on the same floor as the Emergency Department. This layout allows cardiac patients arriving through the ER to be transferred directly to the cath lab and hybrid lab without leaving the floor, cutting the critical time from arrival to intervention.
The upgrade is part of a wider growth plan for the roughly 170-bed hospital, with a planned second phase set to add two trauma rooms, an additional resuscitation room, six pediatric treatment rooms, pediatric and adult isolation rooms, and a dedicated section for Emergency Medical Services (EMS). For residents in Jeddah, the expansion promises faster emergency response and stronger specialized heart care.
