Jazan Red Alert: Heavy Rain, Floods in Abu Arish

Civil defense in Jazan has issued a red alert warning of heavy rain and flash floods across the whole of Abu Arish Governorate, with the warning in effect from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026.

Residents across the affected area have been urged to take precautions due to the risk of flooding during the alert period. The warning was delivered through the National Center for Meteorology's early-warning system and the civil defense warning channel.

Why it matters

A red alert is the highest level of weather warning, signaling conditions that can develop quickly and pose a danger to life and property. Flash floods can rise fast in low-lying areas and valleys, so authorities advise staying away from water crossings, avoiding unnecessary travel during the alert window, and keeping to safe higher ground where possible.

This is not the first such warning for the region in recent weeks. A similar alert for Jazan was lifted on July 25, 2026, after authorities confirmed the danger had passed. Residents are encouraged to follow official weather updates closely and heed any instructions from local authorities until the current alert expires.
