A new agreement will expand container capacity at Jeddah Islamic Port after RSGT and shipping company CMA CGM signed deals to develop and operate Terminal 4 at the port, one of the Kingdom's busiest maritime gateways.
The project carries a planned investment of USD 434 million, equal to about SAR 1.6 billion. It is expected to add up to 2.6 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of container handling capacity significantly boosting the terminal's throughput.
Under the plans, the terminal will gain new deep-water berths and be equipped with 10 ship-to-shore cranes, allowing it to handle larger vessels and higher cargo volumes. The agreement falls within the framework of the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani).
Why it matters
Jeddah Islamic Port is a key trade hub linking the Kingdom to global shipping routes on the Red Sea. Expanding its capacity supports the flow of goods into local markets and strengthens Saudi Arabia's position as a regional logistics center.
For residents and businesses, greater port capacity can help improve supply chains and support economic growth in the wider region, in line with national efforts to develop the Kingdom's transport and logistics sector.
