Jeddah Municipality carried out a field campaign in the Al-Khumrah district in southern Jeddah, targeting the illegal sale of used clothing and random street stalls. The operation resulted in the removal and destruction of 270 unlicensed stalls, the destruction of 1.3 tons of used clothing, and the transport of about 11 tons of assorted seized goods to a landfill.
The campaign was implemented by the Agency for Branch Municipalities at Jeddah Municipality, working through its sub-municipalities and on-site inspection and field monitoring teams. Actions included the immediate dismantling of illegal markets used to trade and display used garments, the on-the-spot destruction or removal of goods found in violation of municipal and public health regulations, and the cleaning and re-preparation of the affected sites to improve the urban landscape.
Officials described the operation as part of ongoing, simultaneous inspection campaigns across Jeddah neighborhoods aimed at combating illegal markets, counterfeit goods, and food items unfit for human consumption. Al-Khumrah and nearby areas in southern Jeddah have been recurrent targets for crackdowns on informal markets, illegal warehouses, and street vendors.
Why it matters
The removal of unregulated stalls and used-clothing sales addresses public-health concerns and helps improve the appearance and safety of residential areas. Violators identified in such campaigns are subject to municipal violation records and legal procedures, including possible fines and referral to competent authorities.
Residents can report violations such as illegal stalls, unsafe food, and random markets through Jeddah Municipality channels, national municipal digital platforms, and municipal hotlines. These reports feed directly into monitoring and inspection campaigns that lead to the closure of illegal warehouses, the dismantling of markets, and the destruction of seized goods.
