National Nutrition Committee Reviews Programs at 5th Meeting

The National Nutrition Committee held the fifth meeting of its third session on 26 August 2026, chaired by the CEO of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority. The meeting focused on reviewing nutrition-related programs and policies currently implemented across the Kingdom.

Discussions centered on ways to improve the nutritional and health status of people in Saudi Arabia, examining how existing initiatives can be strengthened to support better dietary habits nationwide.

An advisory scientific body

The Committee is a scientific advisory body operating under the Saudi Food and Drug Authority. Its role is to provide scientific recommendations and expert opinions on nutrition to relevant government authorities, helping to inform policy-making and public health programs. It does not manage individual services or transactions through government portals, and no fees or user steps are attached to its meetings.

The Committee's work in 2026 is connected to several national initiatives. These include the Saudi Food Composition Database, launched to document Saudi culinary heritage and provide updated nutritional data on commonly consumed foods, and the Saudi Healthy Eating Index (SHEI), a tool used to assess the quality of diets among the population.

The Committee also supports national strategies covering healthy diets, the prevention of obesity and diet-related noncommunicable diseases, school health and nutrition, and dietary guidelines tailored for Saudis.

For residents and families across Riyadh, Jeddah, and other cities, these efforts point to a broader push toward healthier eating and improved public health, backed by locally relevant nutritional data and clearer dietary guidance.
