Technology provider Nextchem has been selected to supply the technology package for SABIC Agri-Nutrients' SAN-7 large-scale fertilizer complex in Jubail Industrial City, in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. The package carries a total value of €125 million, roughly SAR 500–520 million at current rates, though the exact riyal figure depends on the prevailing exchange rate at the time of payment.
The scope is delivered through Nextchem's nitrogen technology licensor, Stamicarbon, and covers a technology licensing agreement with SABIC Agri-Nutrients, the Process Design Package for the urea units, and the supply of proprietary equipment based on NX STAMI™ Urea technology.
What SAN-7 will produce
The SAN-7 complex is set to include two urea production units, each with a capacity of 3,850 metric tons Overall, the complex is designed to produce 1.2 million metric tons of conventional ammonia and 2.6 million metric tons of urea
Separately from the technology package, the full engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the ammonia and urea complex has been awarded to Samsung E&A, valued at around USD 3.465–3.5 billion, or roughly SAR 13–14 billion.
Once SAN-7 enters operation, SABIC Agri-Nutrients' total urea production capacity is planned to rise significantly, an increase of about 54 percent. Feedstock allocation approval for the project was issued by the Ministry of Energy on 25 March 2026 (6 Shawwal 1447H).
For the Eastern Province and the wider Kingdom, the project points to continued expansion in Saudi industrial capacity and fertilizer exports, supporting jobs, local supply chains, and the industrial goals set out under Saudi Vision 2030.
