Rain and Thunderstorms to Continue Across Saudi Arabia

Rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast to continue across parts of Saudi Arabia from Wednesday, 26 August 2026, through the end of the week, with intensity varying by region. The unstable weather is expected to extend into Friday and Saturday, mainly affecting the southwestern highlands and adjacent areas.

moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected over the southwestern regions, especially Jazan and Asir, raising the risk of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas. Light to moderate rain is forecast for parts of the Makkah and Madinah regions, as well as southern parts of the Eastern Province and the Riyadh Region on affected days.

Periods of active winds stirring dust and sand are also anticipated over parts of Riyadh, the Eastern Province, Makkah, Madinah, Najran, and the Northern Borders on some days. In red-alert southwestern zones, rainfall of roughly 10 to 50 millimeters with lower intensities for orange and yellow alerts. Temperatures in some regions remain in the high-40s Celsius despite the rain.

The pattern tends to weaken or pause overnight, then redevelop the following afternoon, particularly in southwestern and southern regions, continuing into the weekend.

What this means for residents

Residents and visitors are advised to monitor official forecasts and alert maps, along with local civil-defense announcements, for any flash-flood warnings or road-closure information. Extra caution is urged in valleys (wadis), low-lying areas, and mountain roads across Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and parts of Makkah, where flash flooding has been specifically highlighted as a risk during this rainy spell.
