Riyadh Enters Top 50 Global Cities Index 2026

Riyadh has entered the top 50 of the 2026 Global Cities Index for the first time, securing the 50th spot worldwide among 1,000 cities across 163 countries. The milestone marks a sharp rise for the Saudi capital and places it among only two Middle Eastern cities in the top 50, alongside Dubai.

Riyadh recorded an overall score of 78.1 in the 2026 edition. Its strongest performance came in human capital, where it scored 92.5 and ranked 4th globally, followed by economics with 77.7, ranking 18th worldwide. The city scored 64.4 in quality of life, 48.8 in environment, and 45.7 in governance.

The jump is significant. Riyadh ranked 118th in 2024 and 97th in 2025 before climbing to 50th in 2026 — a leap of 47 places in a single year. The index also lists Riyadh as a "city to watch," reflecting strong economic momentum and ongoing human capital development.

Why it matters

Riyadh's rise is linked to rapid economic and social development, economic diversification, targeted investment, and policy reforms aimed at boosting growth and competitiveness. For residents and businesses in the capital, the ranking signals a maturing environment for jobs, investment, and long-term opportunity.

The performance in human capital in particular points to a growing pool of skilled talent and expanding opportunities across sectors — a factor that continues to draw professionals and companies to the city.
