Saudi AI Education Sandbox Boosts Digital Learning

Saudi Arabia is expanding a dedicated test environment for artificial intelligence in education, operated under the National eLearning Center as the AI Sandbox for Digital Learning. The program aims to give selected AI-in-education solutions a safe, structured space to be developed and tested before wider use across the Kingdom.

The sandbox works through a system of "seats" for chosen solutions. Each seat provides access to staged funding of up to SAR 150,000 released in phases that are tied to the completion of program milestones over a three-year period. This approach links funding to progress rather than paying everything upfront.

four solutions in the sandbox have received MVP Lab funding totaling SAR 600,000, with additional seats still available for further solutions to join.

Why it matters

The core purpose of the sandbox is to offer a flexible, low-risk environment where AI technologies for digital learning can be trialed. This lets developers carry out evidence-based research and refine their tools step by step before any large-scale deployment reaches classrooms and learners.

Participation involves selection and acceptance of AI solutions into the seats program. Detailed public information on application steps, required documents, and any specific participation or evaluation fees is not currently published, and no standard user-facing fee schedule has been disclosed. There is also no published information on the use of national platforms as a formal application channel, exact participation fees, or contract validity beyond the general three-year window. Saudi Living will share verified updates as they become available.
