Saudi Arabia Launches SAR 2bn Waste Projects

Saudi Arabia has launched 27 new investment opportunities to develop and operate 33 waste management facilities across several regions, with total investments exceeding SAR 2 billion. The package is offered by the National Center for Waste Management (MWAN) in partnership with five municipal authorities.

The opportunities are spread across five regions. The Eastern Province (Dammam area) leads with 13 opportunities valued at SAR 973 million, followed by Madinah Region with 7 opportunities worth up to SAR 780 million. Qassim Region has 4 opportunities worth up to SAR 235 million, Makkah Region has 2 opportunities valued at SAR 96.8 million, and Tabuk Region has one opportunity worth SAR 34 million.

The projects cover facilities to treat construction and demolition waste, medical and slaughterhouse waste, and plants for sorting municipal solid waste to improve efficiency and resource recovery. The allocated land area exceeds 1.8 million square metres, with a design capacity of up to 7 million tons of waste expected to be diverted from landfills into treatment and recovery streams.

Why it matters

The initiative aims to expand private-sector participation in waste infrastructure and operations, supporting the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and the national circular economy agenda. Sector-wide investment opportunities in waste management are estimated at around SAR 420 billion through 2040, while broader transformation infrastructure needs are put at SAR 30 to 40 billion between 2025 and 2035.

Detailed descriptions and documentation for the opportunities are available through MWAN's official investment opportunities portal. Interested investors can obtain full details and participation procedures by registering and accessing the online platform and following the published opportunity notices and guidelines.
