Saudi Arabia Sets 15-Stadium Plan for 2034 World Cup

Saudi authorities have confirmed an initial readiness plan for the 2034 FIFA World Cup that relies on 15 stadiums spread across five cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, Abha and NEOM. The plan sets out which venues will be refurbished, which are already under construction, and which will be built new for the tournament.

The 15 venues break down into four existing or refurbishment stadiums, three under construction, and eight planned new builds. The refurbishment group includes King Fahd Sports City Stadium and King Saud University Stadium and Prince Faisal bin Fahd Sports City Stadium in Riyadh, along with King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah.

Riyadh carries the largest share, with eight stadiums including King Salman International Stadium, New Murabba Stadium, ROSHN Stadium, South Riyadh Stadium and Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium. Jeddah lists four venues, among them Qiddiya Coast Stadium, Jeddah Central Development Stadium and King Abdullah Economic City Stadium. Al Khobar will host matches at Aramco Stadium, Abha at King Khalid University Stadium, and NEOM at NEOM Stadium.

Capacities in the design plan

which are design-stage numbers and not ticketing details, King Salman International Stadium in Riyadh is set to hold 92,760 seats, the largest of the group. King Fahd Sports City Stadium is planned for about 70,200 seats after renovation, while most other Riyadh venues sit near 46,000 to 47,000 seats each.

Jeddah stadiums range from roughly 45,700 to 62,000 seats. Aramco Stadium in Al Khobar is set for 46,096 seats, King Khalid University Stadium in Abha for 45,428, and NEOM Stadium for 46,010.

For residents and visitors, the spread across five cities signals wide construction and transport activity in the years ahead, with several venues tied to major national developments already reshaping Riyadh, Jeddah and NEOM.
