Saudi Arabia's operational data center capacity reached about 467 megawatts in the first quarter of 2026, up from 440 megawatts at the end of 2025, The rise reflects continued expansion of the Kingdom's digital infrastructure.
Capacity has grown almost sevenfold over five years, climbing from 68 megawatts in 2021 to the current level. The 467-megawatt figure covers operational capacity across more than 60 data centers owned by over 20 companies.
The increase from 440 to 467 megawatts since the start of 2026 represents more than 6% growth in operational capacity in a matter of months. Cumulative investment linked to this expansion has been reported at over SAR 16 billion in some analyses, while updated official statements place the wider figure at SAR 56.2 billion.
Why it matters
The data center sector is described as a key driver of digital infrastructure, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. Its rapid growth has helped position Saudi Arabia among the leading global data center hubs, supporting the digital services that residents and businesses rely on every day.
National planning targets referenced in 2026 aim to raise data center capacity to around 1.5 gigawatts by 2030, a goal distinct from the larger private pipeline figures circulating for specific corporate projects. For residents and businesses in Riyadh, Jeddah, and beyond, the buildout points to faster and more reliable cloud and online services in the years ahead.
