Saudi Deportation Drive Continues With Weekly Sweeps

Saudi authorities are pressing ahead with intensive weekly enforcement campaigns targeting violators of residency, labor, and border security regulations, with thousands of illegal residents deported each week after completing the required legal procedures.

The campaigns are led by the Ministry of Interior through joint field inspections carried out by security forces and other government agencies across the Kingdom. Recent weekly figures show large numbers of violators processed, with single-week deportation totals ranging roughly between 7,000 and nearly 14,000 individuals, depending on the reporting period.

In a typical week, authorities arrest between about 9,500 and 19,000 violators. Thousands are deported once their cases are finalized, while tens of thousands are referred to their diplomatic missions to obtain travel documents and several thousand more are referred to complete travel bookings before departure.

How the process works

Deportation follows a defined legal path: verification of the violation under the Residency Law, Labor Law, or Border Security Law; detention and processing in Ministry of Interior facilities; issuance or verification of travel documents through the violator's embassy or consulate; and finally booking travel and removal from the Kingdom.

For those already detained as illegal residents, deportation is handled directly by security authorities and relevant ministries — not through self-service e-platforms, which are used by compliant residents, workers, employers, and citizens to manage their legal status and government services.

Recent reports also point to continued tightening at the borders, with hundreds of attempted illegal crossings intercepted and dozens arrested for trying to leave the country unlawfully. Authorities continue to urge residents to keep their residency and work status valid to avoid penalties, which may include fines and deportation.
