Saudi Arabia is on track to attract around USD 1 trillion (about SAR 3.75 trillion) in infrastructure investment by 2030, driven by long-term private-sector strategies and the goals of رؤية السعودية 2030. The push is anchored in flagship projects across the Kingdom, with الرياض advancing smart city and public transport expansion.
The figure forms part of a wider capital envelope of roughly USD 3 trillion (about SAR 11.25 trillion) through 2030 across public, sovereign fund, and induced private investment. The Public Investment Fund has separately announced SAR 1 trillion in new domestic investments over five years (2025–2030), targeting real estate, logistics, renewable energy, and urban development.
Riyadh transport and smart mobility
The completed قطار الرياض, part of the King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project, cost about USD 22.5 billion (around SAR 84.4 billion), spans 176 km, and includes 85 stations. Combined with the Riyadh Bus Network, the system aims to widen public transport coverage while cutting fuel use and carbon emissions.
Under رؤية السعودية 2030, urban transport targets include having 30% of cars in الرياض electric by 2030, supported by expanded metro and bus services.
Smart cities take shape
Smart city investment is concentrated in نيوم, الرياض, البحر الأحمر, الدرعية, and القدية, focusing on connected sensors, digital twins, smart mobility, and urban data platforms. The cumulative smart city technology market is estimated at SAR 80–100 billion through 2035. نيوم alone is projected to draw more than USD 500 billion (about SAR 1.875 trillion), with AI-enabled infrastructure designed to reduce energy use.
For residents and expats in الرياض and جدة, the plans point to faster, cleaner ways to move around cities and expanded services in the years ahead.
