Saudi Stadiums Ready for 2026 International Football

Saudi Arabia has completed preparations to host a series of major international football tournaments, with clubs and stadiums across the Kingdom stepping up their readiness for upcoming fixtures. The most immediate is the AFC U23 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026, set to run from 6 to 24 January 2026 with 16 Asian national teams competing.

Four main venues have been confirmed ready to Asian Football Confederation standards. In Riyadh, the expanded and upgraded Prince Faisal bin Fahd Sports City Stadium will host several group-stage matches, while Al Shabab Club Stadium — with a capacity of around 15,000 — is scheduled to stage six group-stage games. In Jeddah, the comprehensively upgraded Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium (capacity about 25,000) will host 10 matches, including the opening game and the final, and lies about 30 minutes from King Abdulaziz International Airport. The auxiliary stadium at King Abdullah Sports City (capacity about 10,000) will host 10 games, among them both semifinals and the third-place playoff.

Preparations extend well beyond a single tournament. A total of 17 domestic venues have been readied for club competitions across the 2026–2027 seasons, while eight stadiums in Riyadh, Al Khobar and Jeddah are being prepared specifically for the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027. The upgrades cover technical, operational and crowd-management improvements.

Jeddah will also host the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup from 23 September to 6 October 2026, with matches split between King Abdullah Sports City Stadium and Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium. Meanwhile, the new Aramco Stadium in Al Khobar — with a planned capacity of about 46,000 — is nearing completion, targeting an opening in late 2026, and King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh is undergoing phased redevelopment.

For residents and football fans, the busy calendar means more top-level matches close to home, with modern venues, easier access and international events arriving in Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province.
