SOCPA Refers Unlicensed Accounting Firm to Prosecution

The Saudi Organization for Auditors and Accountants (SOCPA) has referred a commercial establishment to the Public Prosecution for advertising and providing accounting, auditing, or similar professional services without the required authorization. The enforcement action appeared in a public report dated 14 August 2026.

the establishment's conduct is treated as a violation of Article 10 of the Accounting and Auditing Profession law. That article prohibits misleading the public into believing there is a right to practice the profession without a valid license, or after a license has been revoked, suspended, or canceled.

Penalties for this type of violation can be significant. Reported sanctions include imprisonment of up to five years and a fine of up to SAR 2,000,000, underscoring how seriously unauthorized professional practice is treated under the current framework.

Why it matters for the community

The referral is a regulatory enforcement step by SOCPA rather than a routine service handled through a consumer portal. It reflects tighter oversight of who may legally offer accounting and auditing services. In 2025, licensing authority for accounting and related professional services moved from the Ministry of Commerce to SOCPA, consolidating supervision of the profession.

For residents, business owners, and expats who rely on accountants and auditors, the case is a reminder to confirm that any firm or individual providing these services holds a valid license. Dealing with an unauthorized provider can expose clients to unreliable work and legal risk, while properly licensed professionals remain accountable under the profession's regulations.
