Sport Ministry Unveils Club Support Strategy 2026-2027

The Ministry of Sport has launched a new Sport Clubs Support Strategy for the 2026–2027 sports season, marking the eighth annual edition of the ministry's club funding model. The updated strategy keeps a performance-based approach in which support is tied to clubs meeting specific administrative, governance and development criteria.

The 2026–2027 edition is built around seven main initiatives: direct support, various sports (multi-sports), governance, fan attendance, facility development, digital transformation, and a newly added initiative focused on increasing commercial revenues.

Financial allocations across the framework include SAR 953 million for direct support, SAR 541 million for the governance program, SAR 517 million for the multi-sports initiative, SAR 99 million for fan attendance, and SAR 54 million for the new commercial revenue growth initiative. Under the commercial initiative, each Roshn League club receives SAR 1,000,000, while each Yelo League club receives SAR 500,000.

Clubs that meet all requirements of the strategy can receive between SAR 100 million and SAR 120 million in total support for the season.

Why it matters

The strategy aims to improve the institutional performance and efficiency of clubs, strengthen their financial and administrative sustainability, and raise competitiveness across different sports. It also encourages diversification beyond football by supporting a wider range of sports.

For fans and communities in Riyadh, Jeddah and across the Kingdom, the model links funding to fan attendance indicators and digital transformation, encouraging clubs to improve the matchday experience and expand their reach both on and off the field.
