The World Bank has praised Saudi Arabia's AI Sandbox for Digital Learning as a model platform for advancing education technology, human capital, and workforce readiness. The initiative, led by the National eLearning Center, was launched in late 2024 to support responsible artificial intelligence innovation in education.
The sandbox is described as a structured environment for developing, testing, piloting, and refining AI-enabled digital learning solutions. it stands out as a model for improving digital learning quality and building AI-driven education innovation ecosystems across the Kingdom.
The initiative is organized around three core areas: Teach with AI, Adaptive Digital Curriculum Development, and Skills Development and Workforce Alignment. Together, these tracks aim to help educators integrate AI in classrooms, personalize learning content, and align skills with the needs of the labor market.
Why it matters
For students, teachers, and families across the Kingdom, the sandbox reflects a growing national focus on preparing learners for a technology-driven economy. By offering a safe space to experiment with AI tools before wider rollout, the initiative supports higher-quality digital education while managing risks responsibly.
The project is aligned with Saudi Vision 2030 and the Human Capability Development Program, both of which prioritize investment in skills and education. International recognition of the initiative underscores the Kingdom's expanding role in shaping how artificial intelligence is applied in learning environments.
