Jeddah Unveils New Waterfront Upgrade Phase

Jeddah Municipality has unveiled a new phase of its waterfront improvement program, part of the Historic Jeddah Waterfront Rehabilitation Project, adding upgraded public parks, pedestrian links, and enhanced beach facilities along the city's coastline.

The current phase focuses on dredging and reshaping Al-Arbaeen Lagoon, building retaining seawalls, and installing marine infrastructure. Later stages will introduce green spaces, pedestrian bridges, and additional public amenities designed to make the waterfront more accessible and family-friendly.

The Obhur waterfront project

A key component is the Obhur waterfront development, which spans 2.8 kilometers across an area of 180,000 square meters. Plans include pedestrian and bicycle paths, green areas, play areas, a sandy swimming beach, and dedicated investment areas. The project carries a contract value of SAR 229 million, with a planned completion period of 30 months.

An earlier related phase of the Jeddah waterfront covered a 4.2-kilometer area and featured a 4,634-meter sea walkway, five swimming beaches, plazas, fountains, observation towers, and a 650-meter hanging pedestrian bridge.

For residents and visitors in Jeddah, the upgrades promise more open recreational space, safer walking and cycling routes, and improved beach access along the Red Sea coast. The projects aim to strengthen the city's public waterfront as a shared destination for families and communities across the year.
