King Fahd Sports City Stadium in Riyadh is undergoing a comprehensive modernization that will reshape one of the Kingdom's most iconic venues, preparing it to host major international sporting events in the coming years.
Once complete, the stadium will accommodate approximately 70,000 to 70,200 spectators. The overhaul includes a new lower seating tier and the removal of the existing athletics track, bringing fans closer to the action in a dedicated football-focused layout.
Among the most striking upgrades is the replacement of the current canopy with a 36,000-square-metre cable-net roof. Work also covers upgraded infrastructure, modern cooling systems, refreshed sports facilities, public areas, additional football pitches, an amphitheater, and retail shops.
Why it matters
The redevelopment is scheduled for completion in 2026. The venue is being prepared to host matches at the AFC Asian Cup 2027 and the FIFA World Cup 2034, two of the biggest tournaments set to be staged in the region.
For residents and football fans across Riyadh, the modernization promises a more comfortable and modern matchday experience, alongside expanded public and leisure spaces around the stadium. Details on ticket prices, operating hours, and booking channels have not yet been announced.
