Ministry of Energy Launches First Energy Hackathon

The Ministry of Energy has announced the launch of its first-ever Energy Hackathon, held under the slogan “Ignite Your Ideas,” dedicated to driving innovation across the energy sector. The in-person event will take place at the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) in الرياض from 7 to 9 October 2026.

Registration is free of charge and opens on 19 August 2026, closing on Wednesday 16 September 2026. Applications are submitted through the Ministry of Energy’s dedicated hackathon website. The event welcomes students, young professionals, entrepreneurs, and specialists in energy and related technologies, with an emphasis on building diverse, multidisciplinary teams.

The hackathon is organized ahead of and alongside the 25th WPC Energy Congress 2026 in الرياض, scheduled for 11 to 15 October 2026 at the Riyadh Front Exhibition and Conference Center. Winning teams will be honored on the main congress stage at the closing of the congress, in the presence of the Minister of Energy.

Tracks and format

The competition spans three main tracks covering six challenges. The operational efficiency track focuses on improving inspection at oil and gas facilities and maintaining power-grid stability with growing renewable generation. The transformative vision track tackles smart fuel station design and hydrogen storage technologies. The intelligent control track addresses predicting grid failures and managing electricity loads.

Over the multi-day event, participants will submit ideas, receive mentoring, attend specialized workshops, and develop tested concepts or prototypes before pitching to a specialized judging panel. The initiative offers residents and aspiring innovators in the Kingdom a valuable opportunity to contribute to real energy-sector solutions and connect with a major international platform.
