New Direct Container Service Links Jeddah, China

The Saudi Ports Authority has launched a new direct container service at Jeddah Islamic Port that connects the Kingdom with major Chinese ports, part of a wider expansion of China–Jeddah shipping links being rolled out in 2026.

The new service, known as BOS and operated by Blue Ocean Shipping, links Jeddah Islamic Port directly with Qingdao, Ningbo, and Nansha in China. It offers a capacity of 2,300 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units), the standard measure used for container volumes.

The BOS line is one of several new China-linked services strengthening Jeddah's position on trade routes with East Asia. A separate service called SGX, operated by China United Lines, connects Shanghai and Nansha with Malaysia and Egypt, offering capacity of up to 2,452 TEU. Another service, CSE, operated by Hizone Group International Logistics, links Shanghai, Ningbo, Nansha, and Port Klang with capacity of up to 1,400 TEU.

Why it matters

The addition of multiple direct services rather than a single route reflects a broader effort to deepen container connectivity between Saudi Arabia and China. For businesses and importers in Jeddah and beyond, stronger direct links can support faster and more reliable movement of goods along key east–west trade corridors.

The expansion also reinforces Jeddah Islamic Port's role as a leading gateway for shipping in the region, offering more options for cargo moving between Saudi Arabia, East Asia, and connecting markets.
