Riyadh Advances King Salman Stadium for 2034 Cup

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Sport has moved the King Salman International Stadium project in Riyadh into early-works procurement, marking a key step in the Kingdom's preparations to host matches at the 2034 World Cup. The tender covers site preparation, enabling works, and initial construction.

The stadium will be located near King Abdulaziz Park in Riyadh and is planned to hold more than 92,000 seats. Populous is serving as lead architect, with main construction targeted for completion in 2029. The venue is set to host the 2034 World Cup opening match and final.

Participation in the tenders is open to qualified contractors and requires prequalification documentation. Official requirements and submission instructions are issued through the Ministry of Sport's procurement communications. No public application fee or government-service fee was identified for the stadium tenders.

A wider Riyadh stadium programme

Alongside the King Salman International Stadium, a separate stadium project is under construction at القدية near Riyadh, set within the Tuwaiq Mountains. Its main construction contract is valued at approximately SAR15 billion, while its mechanical, public-health, firefighting, and building-management package is worth SAR829 million.

For Riyadh residents and the wider community, the projects signal a major expansion of sports and entertainment infrastructure in the capital over the coming years. Beyond hosting global events, the new venues are expected to support local jobs during construction and offer new destinations for fans and families once complete.
