Public parks across Riyadh have become the setting for a government-backed initiative that encourages residents to be more active and health-aware. The Public Parks Community Sports Initiative launched on 7 May 2026 and expanded to several Saudi cities, including the capital.
In Riyadh, the program uses the city's parks to promote physical activity and community wellbeing through walking, running, and interactive step-count challenges. The parks taking part in the 2026 step challenge include Al-Taif Park, Al Kanari Park, Al Yaqot Park, Al-Deem Park, and Al-Sahab Park.
The initiative is organized with the involvement of the Ministry of Sport and the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing. The Saudi Sports for All Federation supports the effort through the Steps Challenge and related community participation activities.
Why it matters
By bringing structured activities into neighborhood parks, the initiative makes exercise more accessible for families, residents, and expats alike. Step-count challenges add a light, motivating element that encourages people of all ages to build daily movement into their routines.
The push reflects wider national goals to raise participation in sport and improve public health. For Riyadh's growing communities, the newly activated parks offer convenient, welcoming spaces to walk, run, and take part in shared health-focused activities close to home.
