The first phase of Riyadh's Sports Boulevard project opened on 27 February 2025, giving residents new open-air destinations for walking, cycling, and outdoor recreation across the capital. At least 83 kilometres of the boulevard are now open, representing around 40% of overall project completion at the time of the first-phase launch.
Several destinations are now welcoming visitors. These include the Wadi Hanifah area, The Promenade along the Sports Boulevard corridor, and the Arts Tower and intersection area at the meeting point of Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road and Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al-Awwal Road. Also open are the internal cycling loop at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University and the first phase of Sands Sports Park.
No entrance fee or official visitor charge has been specified for the opened public destinations, keeping the spaces accessible to families and individuals looking for places to be active outdoors.
Why it matters
The Sports Boulevard is one of Riyadh's major quality-of-life projects, designed to link neighbourhoods with green corridors and dedicated tracks for walking and cycling. For the community, the opening means more accessible outdoor spaces that encourage a healthier, more active lifestyle in the heart of the city.
Project updates continue to be provided through the Sports Boulevard Foundation and the Royal Commission for Riyadh City. Residents planning a visit can check these official channels for the latest information on newly opened sections and facilities.
