Saudi port operator RSGT is evaluating a bid for a 25-year concession to run a terminal at the Port of Cape Town in South Africa, in a potential expansion of the company's international footprint. A final bid has not yet been announced.
The opportunity centres on the Duncan Dock Precinct, a multi-purpose terminal at the port. The tender is being run by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), with a bid deadline of 20 November 2026. The lease for the terminal's current operation expires in 2027.
The concession is structured under a DBFOM model — Design, Build, Finance, Operate, Maintain, and Transfer. Under this arrangement, the successful bidder would refurbish and operate the terminal for the concession period before eventually transferring it back.
Why it matters
For the Saudi community, the move reflects the broader push by Saudi companies to invest and operate in strategic sectors abroad, in line with wider economic diversification goals. Port infrastructure is a key part of global trade, and a Saudi operator taking on a major overseas terminal signals growing commercial reach.
It is worth noting this is a South African port concession process, not a Saudi government service. No Absher, Muqeem, or other local service channel applies, and no domestic fee or procedure is involved. Saudi Living will continue to follow the story as any formal decision on the bid emerges.
