6,000 Runners Mark National Day in Historic Jeddah

Nearly 6,000 Saudis and expatriates took to the heritage streets of Historic Jeddah (Al-Balad) on Friday, September 18, 2026, joining the Green Spirit Run to mark Saudi National Day with a burst of community energy.

The event offered two distances: a 5 km course for professional and amateur runners, and a shorter 2 km route designed for families and children. Both tracks wound through the historic district's landmarks and traditional streets, blending fitness with the area's rich cultural setting.

The run was organized by Masafat Club, the Ministry of Sports, the Saudi Sports for All Federation, and the Historic Jeddah Program, reflecting a joint effort to bring residents together in one of the Kingdom's most recognizable heritage sites.

Why it matters

Community runs like this one give residents of Jeddah an accessible way to stay active while celebrating national occasions. By opening a family-friendly 2 km option alongside the competitive 5 km race, organizers made the day welcoming to participants of all ages and fitness levels.

Holding the event in Al-Balad also spotlighted Jeddah's UNESCO-listed historic core, drawing thousands to its streets for a morning that combined sport, heritage, and national pride. For many participants, it was a chance to experience the old city on foot while sharing in the National Day spirit.
