Saudi Arabia is expanding community sports and public-health participation across the country, encouraging residents of all ages to adopt more active lifestyles and take part in shaping local health priorities.
Through community-sports programs run by the Saudi Sports for All Federation, the Kingdom is working to raise physical-activity participation to 40% by 2030. These programs focus on non-professional activities such as walking, running, cycling, and other movement that raises the heart rate. Running and cycling events are now held across multiple regions as part of the Sports for All initiatives.
Recent figures highlight steady progress. In 2024, 58.5% of adults completed at least 150 minutes of weekly physical activity, while 18.7% of children aged 5 to 17 achieved at least 60 minutes of daily activity.
Joining public-health efforts
Beyond sports, residents can take part in public-health efforts through the Ministry of Health’s Taf3ol platform and approved e-participation channels. Participation covers consultations, service-prioritization exercises, health surveys, awareness campaigns, and community-health initiatives.
Healthy Cities programs also involve residents, volunteers, women’s groups, and youth groups in identifying local health priorities and promoting weekly physical activity.
For the community, these initiatives offer accessible ways to improve well-being and have a direct say in local health services — reinforcing the broader goals of building healthier, more active communities nationwide.
