Saudi Arabia has approved the appointment of members to its 13 regional councils for their eighth term, under a royal order issued on 4 August 2026. The councils will operate under a renewed four-year mandate, with full lists of the appointed members published for every region.
The 13 councils cover Riyadh, Makkah, Madinah, Jazan, the Eastern Province, Al-Qassim, Asir, Hail, Tabuk, Al-Baha, the Northern Borders Region, Al-Jouf and Najran. The Riyadh, Makkah and Madinah councils each include 20 members, while the remaining ten councils each include 15 members.
Regional councils are considered a key pillar supporting development across the country's regions. They operate under the supervision of the Minister of Interior, with follow-up carried out by the governors, or Amirs, of each region. The eighth term will run for four years from the date specified in the royal order.
Why it matters
For residents and businesses, the councils play a role in guiding regional planning and development priorities, helping ensure that growth reflects the needs of each area. Their reconstitution signals continuity in how the Kingdom manages development across its diverse regions.
The measure is a top-level royal order rather than a citizen-facing service. No fees, application steps, or online procedures are involved for individuals or companies in relation to this reconstitution, and no e-platform action is required from the public.
