Saudi Regional Councils Reconstituted for Eighth Term

Saudi Arabia has reconstituted its Regional Councils across the Kingdom's 13 regions for their eighth term, taking effect on 4 August 2026 with a four-year mandate. The move renews membership of a body that plays a central role in regional development.

The councils operate as a regional development body under the Minister of Interior and the oversight of the regional governors. Their focus remains on supporting development priorities and needs at the level of each region.

Council membership varies by region. The councils for Riyadh, Makkah, and Madinah each comprise 20 members, while the councils for the Kingdom's other 10 regions each comprise 15 members.

Why it matters

Regional Councils serve as a link between local development needs and higher decision-making. Renewing their membership for a fresh four-year term helps sustain continuity in planning and follow-up on projects and services that affect residents across the Kingdom.

The latest change concerns the appointment of members for the new eighth term. For residents and expats, the councils shape the priorities and services delivered within each region over the coming years.
