The Ministry of Sport has launched the new edition of its Sport Clubs Support Strategy for the 2026–2027 sports season, in an event held in Riyadh on 10–11 August 2026. The launch marks the eighth year of the strategy, which aims to strengthen the performance and sustainability of Saudi sports clubs.
The 2026–2027 edition places its focus on enhanced funding and incentive models designed to improve institutional performance, ensure financial and administrative sustainability, and raise the level of excellence and competitiveness across clubs.
The strategy is built around seven key initiatives: direct support, multi-sport development, governance, fan attendance, facility development, digital transformation, and increasing commercial revenues. Together, these form a performance-based support system that links the level of funding a club receives to its results in governance, the growth of non-football sports, rising fan attendance, improved facilities and digital services, and stronger commercial revenues.
Under the commercial revenue growth initiative for the 2026–2027 season, allocations announced include SAR 1 million 000 Governance evaluation continues to rely on criteria such as strategy and leadership, management and operations, oversight and monitoring, financial management, and marketing activities and events.
Since its launch, the strategy's initiatives have received total allocations exceeding SAR 2 billion. For the 2026–2027 edition, the Ministry has outlined the initiatives and their objectives but has not publicly disclosed detailed financial allocations, evaluation weights, or exact support caps by club category for this season.
For clubs, fans, and the wider sports community, the strategy signals a continued shift toward professional management and long-term stability, rewarding clubs that invest in governance, facilities, and broader sporting development beyond football.
