Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund has reported strong mid-year results, with net assets reaching about SAR 4.5 trillion by the end of 2025, up from SAR 4.3 trillion in 2024. Assets under management now stand at roughly US$ 1.21 trillion (around SAR 4.54 trillion), keeping the fund among the world's five largest sovereign wealth funds.
Net profit for 2025 came in at about SAR 65.1 billion, more than double the SAR 25.8 billion recorded in 2024. Gross revenue rose about 9% to roughly SAR 449.9 billion, while operating profit climbed to around SAR 77.9 billion from SAR 34.6 billion a year earlier. Total assets grew about 5% year-on-year, and the fund holds more than SAR 350 billion in cash and cash equivalents to fund new investments.
The fund also relied less on government capital, with new injections falling more than 90% from about SAR 645 billion in 2024 to SAR 54 billion in 2025. At the same time, borrowing rose by nearly a third, from about SAR 570 billion to SAR 725 billion. Roughly 80% of assets are invested inside Saudi Arabia, with about 55% held in alternative assets such as infrastructure, private equity and real estate.
A new five-year plan
A formal 2026-2030 strategy has been approved, focusing the fund on domestic economic development and diversification. Priority themes include travel, tourism and entertainment; urban development and housing; manufacturing, industry and logistics; clean energy and water; minerals; and re-scaled mega-projects such as NEOM.
Tourism developments on the Red Sea coast, including luxury resorts and eco-tourism, remain a core growth area, alongside a fresh emphasis on industry, minerals and artificial intelligence. For residents and expats, the shift toward domestic projects points to continued expansion in jobs, housing and leisure options across the Kingdom.
