Riyadh hosted the fourth UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (GFEAI 2026) from 14 to 17 September 2026, bringing together international experts to examine how AI is reshaping daily life. The forum was co-hosted by UNESCO, the Saudi Data & AI Authority (SDAIA), and the International Centre for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), under the theme "Transforming Global Cooperation for Ethical AI Governance."
Discussions centered on the human impact of artificial intelligence, exploring its effects on people's lives, public services, employment, skills, education, mental health, culture, gender equality, the environment, and sustainable development. Participants placed the focus on ensuring that technology serves communities responsibly.
The forum also addressed AI readiness, its use in the public sector, institutional capacity, safety, ethics, human rights, and international cooperation. These themes reflect a wider effort to guide the growth of AI in ways that protect individuals while opening new opportunities.
Why it matters
For residents and expats across the Kingdom, the conversation around ethical AI is increasingly relevant as digital services expand in areas such as education, healthcare, and government platforms. Hosting a forum of this scale in Riyadh underscores the growing role of the Kingdom in shaping the global dialogue on responsible technology, and the importance placed on aligning innovation with human well-being.
