A new SAR 1.6 billion (about USD 434 million) project to develop and operate Terminal 4 at Jeddah Islamic Port has been confirmed by Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) and CMA CGM Group. The joint agreement was definitively signed in late August 2026, expanding on a plan first announced in October 2025.
The investment falls under RSGT's existing long-term concession with the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), originally executed in 2020. Officials classify it as a major foreign direct investment into the Kingdom's maritime sector, reflecting continued interest in Saudi Arabia's ports and logistics infrastructure.
Terminal 4 is planned to add annual handling capacity of about 2.6 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units). The project includes new deep-water berths designed to receive the world's largest container vessels, along with 10 new ship-to-shore cranes and advanced terminal technologies. Once complete, RSGT's total annual handling capacity at Jeddah Islamic Port is expected to reach roughly 8.8 million TEU.
For the wider community, the expansion signals greater cargo capacity through one of the Kingdom's busiest gateways, supporting supply chains, imports, and trade flows that affect businesses and consumers across the region. Larger vessels and higher throughput can improve efficiency at a port that handles a significant share of Saudi Arabia's maritime trade.
The project is managed through the concession framework of Mawani, with interaction primarily between RSGT, CMA CGM, and the Ports Authority. As of early September 2026, no exact construction start or completion date has been publicly disclosed, and no specific new tariffs, handling charges, or storage fees unique to Terminal 4 have been released beyond the standard Jeddah Islamic Port framework.
