The Royal Commission for Riyadh City has launched Riyadh Digital District, a strategic project designed to position the capital among the world's top 10 global technology hubs by bringing together tech companies, specialized talent, and investors in one dedicated digital business environment.
The district will focus on six priority sectors: artificial intelligence and big data, cybersecurity, cloud computing and cloud services, the Internet of Things, blockchain technology, and robotics and drones. It aims to attract large and medium-sized technology firms, fast-growing scale-ups, innovative startups, and both local and international digital specialists.
Planned offerings include an integrated digital business environment supported by advanced infrastructure and smart-city services, office and innovation spaces built for research and product development, and incentive packages tailored to different company sizes and growth stages. Specific fee structures have not yet been published.
Why it matters
The project supports wider national goals of growing non-oil GDP through digital and knowledge-based industries, creating high-skilled technology jobs, and attracting global talent to live and work in the capital. For residents, the district promises improved quality of life through digitally enabled services and smart infrastructure.
As of August 2026, detailed operational procedures, licensing steps, and investor or tenant onboarding processes had not been publicly specified. Companies are expected to continue using existing national platforms for visas, labor contracts, commercial registration, and municipal licensing where applicable. The Royal Commission for Riyadh City remains the responsible body for planning and developing the district.
