Jeddah Shuts Two Illegal Food Sites, Destroys 2.5 Tonnes

Jeddah Municipality has closed two unauthorized food-production and preparation sites in the Al-Harazat and Al-Qaws districts of eastern Jeddah, destroying a total of 2.5 tonnes of food products after inspectors found violations of municipal and health requirements. The action was carried out in October 2026.

1.5 tonnes of products were destroyed at one site and 1 tonne at the other. Production equipment was confiscated at both locations, and both were ordered closed for failing to meet licensing and food-safety standards.

The move is part of ongoing inspection efforts aimed at ensuring that food sold and prepared in the city comes from licensed facilities that comply with hygiene regulations. Unauthorized operations can pose serious health risks, as they often lack proper storage, handling, and sanitation controls.

Why it matters for residents

For families and residents across Jeddah, routine closures like these are a reminder to buy food from licensed outlets and to stay alert to signs of poor hygiene or improperly stored products. Supporting compliant businesses helps protect public health across the community.

Residents who come across food-safety violations can report them through the Balady platform or by calling 940. Reports help authorities identify unlicensed sites and act quickly to protect consumers.
