Jeddah Shuts Two Unlicensed Food Sites, Destroys 2.5 Tons

Jeddah Municipality closed two unauthorized food-production sites in the Al-Harazat and Al-Qaws neighborhoods of east Jeddah, as part of its continuing inspection campaigns targeting establishments operating without the required licences.

During the enforcement action, authorities destroyed 2.5 tons of food products deemed unfit or produced outside approved standards — 1.5 tons recovered from one site and 1 ton from the other. Equipment used at both locations was also confiscated.

Why it matters

Unlicensed food operations fall outside routine health oversight, which can put consumers at risk of unsafe products. Shutting down these sites and disposing of their goods is intended to protect public health and ensure that food reaching residents meets approved safety requirements.

Saudi municipalities carry out ongoing inspections of food establishments across the Kingdom. Under applicable municipal and food-safety regulations, inspectors may issue violation reports, impose financial penalties, order closures, and dispose of non-compliant products.

No specific fine amounts, closure periods, or appeal procedures were stated for this particular action. Residents who notice food being produced or sold under unsafe or unlicensed conditions are encouraged to report it to the relevant municipal authorities so that it can be reviewed.
