Jeddah Shuts Two Unlicensed Food Sites, Destroys 2.5 Tonnes

Jeddah Municipality shut down two unauthorized food-production and preparation sites in the Al-Harazat and Al-Qaws districts, east of Jeddah, on 22 October 2026, after inspectors found them operating in breach of approved municipal and health requirements.

During the operation, authorities destroyed a total of 2.5 tonnes of food products deemed unsafe for consumption — 1.5 tonnes seized at the Al-Harazat site and 1 tonne at the Al-Qaws site. Equipment used at both locations was confiscated, and the premises were closed.

Officials said the workers and operators running the two sites were referred for legal action in line with regulations governing food handling and licensing.

Why it matters

Unlicensed food-production sites often skip the hygiene and safety checks required of approved facilities, raising the risk of contamination and foodborne illness for consumers. Inspection campaigns like this one are part of ongoing municipal efforts to keep products reaching households and local markets safe.

Residents are encouraged to buy from licensed outlets and to report suspected violations to the municipality, helping authorities act quickly on sites that operate outside the approved standards.
