Saudi Central Bank Raises Repo Rate to 4.50%

The Saudi Central Bank raised its key policy rates by 25 basis points on 16 September 2026, moving the repurchase agreement (repo) rate to 4.50% and the reverse repurchase agreement (reverse repo) rate to 4.00%. The decision applies to overnight operations and related standing facilities from the same date.

The increase lifted the repo rate from 4.25% to 4.50% and the reverse repo rate from 3.75% to 4.00%. Both rates had been held at their previous levels since the last adjustment in late 2025. The central bank said the move keeps Saudi monetary policy aligned with global monetary conditions and interest rate decisions in major economies, while safeguarding domestic monetary and financial stability.

These are administered policy rates used in the central bank's liquidity operations with banks. The repo rate forms the ceiling and the reverse repo rate the floor of the policy corridor for short-term Saudi Riyal liquidity. The updated 4.50% and 4.00% figures are reflected across the central bank's official monetary operations channels.

Why it matters

Although the change takes place between the central bank and licensed banks, it indirectly affects Saudi Riyal lending and deposit rates across local banks. Over time, this can influence borrowing costs for companies and households through bank pricing that is linked to these benchmarks.

Importantly, the decision does not create or change any user fees or steps on government platforms such as أبشر, مقيم, قوى, ناجز, نفاذ, or توكلنا. There are no separate charges paid by the public for the rate change; its effect flows only through market interest rates, not through user-pay service fees.
