Around 6,000 Saudis and expatriates took part in the Green Spirit Run through Historic Jeddah (Al-Balad), held as part of Saudi National Day celebrations in Jeddah.
The event offered two distances: a 5 km course for professional and amateur runners, and a 2 km route designed for families and children. The course wound past some of Al-Balad's best-known heritage landmarks, including Bab Jadid, giving participants a run through one of the city's most historic districts.
The run was organized by Masafat Club together with the Ministry of Sports, the Sports for All Federation, and the Jeddah Historic District program. The collaboration reflects a growing focus on community-based sporting events that bring residents together in public, outdoor settings.
Why it matters
Community races like this one give residents of all ages and fitness levels an accessible way to stay active while celebrating national occasions. Holding the event inside Historic Jeddah also shines a spotlight on the area's heritage, blending sport with the city's cultural identity.
The strong turnout of both Saudis and expatriates underlines the appeal of open, family-friendly activities in Jeddah. With separate distances for competitive runners and for families, the event welcomed a wide range of participants under one celebration.
